Yoga for Women's Health
Even though I had holistic approaches to my health, yoga was the first time that I was truly able to connect to myself. Learning to breathe, to open painful areas, to move with intention and mindfulness changed my life.
Because of my story I’m drawn to women’s health related to the practice of yoga. It fascinates me to dive in and study all of the little pieces that make up the whole; to know about the intricacies that make you feel good while in the pose and in your life.
Yoga increases blood flow to parts of your body that normally don’t get special attention, like your pelvis. It also helps us release emotional tensions and toxins that have built up over the years. This is called cellular memory, the notion that the cells of the living tissue that belong to you have the ability to experience and remember everything that you do. Your body is a sculpture that has been shaped by every experience you have ever had. Yoga will reveal them all.
“Yoga is about clearing away whatever is in us that prevents our living in the most full and whole way. With yoga, we become aware of how and where we are restricted; in body, mind, and heart, and how gradually to open and release these blockages. As these blockages are cleared, our energy is freed. We start to feel more harmonious, more at one with ourselves. Our lives begin to flow, or we begin to flow more in our lives. ~ Cybele Tomlinson
